What do you believe in?

I believe that good design makes a difference in the world and that if there is an authentic story being told it will resonate with the right audience. Telling stories is part of human nature, and I believe there is something universal in the power
of narrative.

A successful design is never the first version of an idea. For me the initial concept is a jumping off point before arriving at the
seemingly obvious solution.

When a design clicks with a viewer instantly, it's likely it took many hours for that effect. What I try to achieve is that wow moment that grabs someone's attention and makes them take a second look.

INTERMISSION

A while ago I half-remember hearing a story of a museum curator. The story goes that a museum was so full of paintings that visitors tired themselves as they walked through it’s floors, overwhelmed by all the artworks. So the curator comes up with this idea, he placed seats across the interior and planted areas of gardens between exhibits so that people could sit, digest, and think.

This is, in a way, the idea behind Intermission Design. It’s using pause as emphasis in a song, it’s the empty space that lets a poster breathe, it’s the balance between the scale of two objects. Intermission leaves space for the audience, it’s a participatory experience. When somebody feels their part of the process they enjoy the result far more. Intermission creates thoughtful designs for
thoughtful people.
